Baduizm.

Hip-hop’s favorite baby mama is back with the second effort in her New Amerykah series entitled Return of The Ankh. Just in time for the release, Ms. Badu dropped this Coodie & Chike helmed piece that is drawing both acclaim and ire. I like what I see. Take a walk with Erykah and see for yourself.

TYO State of Mind.

A trip to The Land of the Rising Sun may just be in order. Historical shit goes down May 2nd.

Culinary Arts.

Frathouse-favorite Ash Roth is back with a new mixtape. Though I am left scratching my head at the tape’s title and concept, the kid’s beat selection for this effort is grade-A.

Asher is definetly improving his mic skills – the wordplay here is top-notch and he hits home runs with trademark sports references – but generally the hate continues. I’ll be keeping my eye out for his next move.

Pass the Bar.

Marshall’s former (and future?) wingman is prepping the third installment in his Bar Exam mixtape series. As usual, Nickel Nine shows these rap cats how it should be done. Other artists must get nervous when they hear Royce is using their beat for one of his “mixtape” tracks, because nine out of ten, he outshines like a diamond in the sun. Here, he goes in on Drake and Friends’ “Forever.”

Royce Da 5’9″ – “Forever”

Bonus:

Royce previously took a a stab at another one of Drizzy’s instrumentals. When dude gets his hands on the right production, he really shows his elite status as an emcee.

M.O.D.

The G.O.O.D. Music fam is at it once again. Father Cons’ new mixtape Movies on Demand has finally dropped after more leaks than a Chinese maxi-pad. An impressive list of guests including Pharoahe Monch, Common, and the Bawse himself. No Springsteen.

Late Pass.

I’ve had this one sitting around on the shelf C-Drive for a while now, but just unzipped the shit last week and it’s been in heavy rotation ever since.

Cyhi has a lame alias been riding the pine over at Konvict Music for a while now, but with the release of this mixtape, he is starting to catch a buzz. He’s another ATLien on the rise, and has even caught the attention of the ever-so-humble Mr. West. I must say, the young man has a way with words. Here, he goes in over some of radio’s favorite beats and handles himself very well.

CyHi Da Prynce – The Prynce of Jacks

Bonus:

This track, not found on the tape, is what inspired me to unzip. Pause.

I Say Hello.

Meanwhile, the former King is back from his own stint to reclaim his throne. It is hard to believe that it has been a year since Clifford went away, and let’s hope he has learned that world famous rappers don’t need to be present for machine gun transactions in Walgreen’s parking lots. Anyway, here is a little primer for his return album due shortly August 24. I was expecting a little more, but it sure is good to hear Tip back in typical fashion.
