No Wallers.

This is shaping up to be a big weekend for Taipei. On Friday night, one of the world’s premier turntablists (no Chris Martin) will jumping behind the decks at Pulse/Luxy. Most famous for winning the World DMC Championship in 2002, DJ Kentaro was also an uncredited leader in the rise of the mash-up, regularly ignoring preexisting genre boundries. His 2004 Ninja Tune solo effort remains praised for it’s innovation. He has established himself as a heavyweight well beyond his impeccable touch [pause], and solidified his name in the reggae, DNB, and electro scenes as well as hip-hop. Shit, dude got on by and remains a collaborator of The Roots and The Pharcyde. If that isn’t enough of a co-sign for you, I don’t know what would be.

I say 2002 is a long time ago. I’m interested to see how he has stepped up his skills after nearly a decade of work since. The 400 NT ticket price is well worth it to find out. If you get a kick out of turtablism, you can’t miss this.
