Rest in Power.

It’s been five years to the day since I first read of the passing of James Yancey. Dilla was and is my favorite artist to ever do it. He was a genius, and he was taken to soon. The story had been told a million times, so I’ll spare the details. Just do yourself a favor and give Donuts, Welcome 2 Detroit, Fan-Tas-Tic, Fantastic Vol. 2, Jaylib, The Shining, Ruff Draft, Best Kept Secret, Jay Stay Paid, and the countless other projects he influenced ample time in your rotation. And educate the young’ns and anyone new to the genre on the way hip-hop can sound when it’s in its finest form.

For now, here are a couple gems that provide some insight not only on Dilla Dog’s contributions as a musician, but as a man.

And finally, a powerful look into Dilla’s Last Days. A must-read for anyone who considers him/herself a fan.

We miss you, Jay Dee.
